Exodus 11 & 12
Lesson Aim
That Jesus became our Passover lamb when he died on the cross.
Hook 1: Large pictures
Outlines of 2 or 3 houses on large sheets of paper. It needs to be no more complicated than this picture.
Red paint with plenty of covers / old newspapers / painting aprons. Alternatively large red felt-pens can be used.
In the story when the Israelites are told by Moses to paint the doorposts and lintels, ask the children to paint (or colour) the doorposts and lintels on the pictures.
Hook 2: Small pictures
Have an outline of the house on an A4 sheet for each child. When the doorposts and lintels have been coloured in, fix the pictures on a wall to give a street scene.
Hook 3: Question
Who is the oldest child in your family? Get these children (and adults) to stand and then tell them to pretend to drop down dead on the floor. Explain how so many people died and how it affected every family except for God’s people.
Application
The application needs to explain how the God’s people in Egypt were saved because a lamb was killed and its blood was painted on the door posts. For Christians, Jesus is the ‘lamb’ and Christians are saved by Jesus’ blood when he died on the cross.
Language
Shed blood means blood which has been spilled.
