Genesis 21
Lesson Aim
To understand that God sometimes performs miracles to keep his promises.
Hook 1: Photographs
Have some photos of some of the children or leaders when they were babies. Can they identify who is who?
Hook 2: Older person
Get older person (who the children know) to bring a picture of when they became a parent. Ask them what age they were. Would they like to have a baby now?
The children could guess how old Abraham and Sarah were when God kept his promise and gave them a baby? Have the numbers 90 and 100 and the names Abraham and Sarah ready to display.
Hook 3: Questions
Have you ever seen a new-born baby? Have you had a new baby in your family?
If there is a new-born baby get the parent to bring the baby along and talk about what it is like to become a parent. If there is no new baby which could be brought up, ask which children can remember the birth of a baby in their family. How did they feel at the time of the birth?
Application
God kept his promise to Abraham and Sarah, even though everyone knew they were too old to have a child. God also keeps his promises to us. He promises that if we love and trust Jesus then he lives with us, he will be our special friend and that we will go to be with him in heaven one day.
